TRENTON, N.J. - The Trenton Ironhawks are excited to welcome award-winning broadcaster Kyle Cannillo as the organization’s Director of Broadcasting, Digital Media, and Communications. A New Jersey native, Cannillo returns home to serve as the voice of the Ironhawks while leading the organization’s media and communications efforts.
“This is truly a dream come true opportunity for me,” Cannillo said. “I’m incredibly excited to return to my home state and help tell the story of the Ironhawks from the very beginning. I want to help build a brand that Trenton can rally behind and be proud of.”
Cannillo joins the Ironhawks after spending three seasons with the Rochester Jr. Americans of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), most recently serving as the team’s Senior Director of Broadcasting, Marketing, and Media. In that role, he was responsible for broadcasting home and away games while overseeing social media, marketing, game-day operations, community relations, and the team website.
During his time with Rochester, Cannillo helped elevate the Jr. Americans into a nationally recognized organization. The team’s social media following grew to more than 21,000, leading the NAHL’s East Division and ranking third in the league. Rochester games also amassed more than 500,000 minutes watched on NAHLTV, making the team the most viewed in the division. In 2024, the Jr. Americans were named the NAHL’s Organization of the Year, while Cannillo was honored as the league’s Broadcaster of the Year.
Known for his energetic play-by-play and storytelling, Cannillo was selected by the NAHL to serve as a broadcaster for the NAHL All-Star Top Prospects Tournament. Prior to joining Rochester, he worked for the Chippewa Steel of the NAHL, where his marketing efforts helped double the team’s attendance from the previous season.
Cannillo attended Penn State University, where he served as one of the school’s play-by-play broadcasters for two Division I hockey teams. He called games on Big Ten Network Plus and the campus radio station while also gaining experience covering major sporting events, including the NFL Draft live from Las Vegas, Penn State football’s marquee home and away games, and the NCAA Women’s Frozen Four National Championship.
In addition to his broadcasting experience, Cannillo has extensive experience in social and digital media, including internships with Showtime Sports and Paramount in New York City. He joins the Ironhawks with a focus on creating authentic content, memorable experiences, and a strong connection between the team and its community.
